This #GoodNewsFriday we hear from Friends of the Elderly about how people have been celebrating their birthdays recently across some of their homes.

At Bernard Sunley, a Woking-based nursing and dementia care home, Margaret ‘Betty’ Carr had a wonderful day celebrating her 87th birthday with her family and care home friends. The care home team made sure Betty had a day to remember, complete with all her favourite things and, of course, a delicious birthday cake.

Betty said:

I’ve had a really special birthday with all my family and friends, it’s been wonderful. We were chatting over a tasty cup of tea and somebody asked if I could go back in time and speak to my younger self, what would I say? I think it’s quite easy. I’d say make the most of every day, enjoy life and don’t worry too much about the little things – that’s what I do every day.

Elsewhere, at Friends of the Elderly’s Orford House in Coulsdon, Irene Wilson has been celebrating her 95th birthday.

The care team made sure Irene had a day fit for a musical lover with gifts, cards, a scrumptious birthday cake, and a tasty afternoon tea with her son Scott and all her care home friends. There was lots of singing, music, laughing, toe-tapping and dancing.

Irene said:

I’ve had an absolutely brilliant 95th Birthday. It’s been a fantastic day. All the care team at Orford House have made me feel so loved and special. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.
