We take this #GoodNewsFriday to celebrate a Bromborough-based charity supporting autistic adults that has been recognised as the one of the best employers in the North West at the prestigious Great British Care Awards.
Autism Together, a Bromborough-based charity supporting autistic adults, has won an award for being a leading employer in the region’s care sector.
The awards ceremony, held at Manchester's Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in November, saw Autism Together emerge victorious from a competitive field of 12 other shortlisted care providers. The charity will now go on to represent the North West at the national awards in 2025.
The GB Care Awards judges praised Autism Together for its unwavering commitment to staff well-being. They highlighted the charity's comprehensive training programme, 24/7 access to health support, and biannual cash rewards, all of which contribute to creating a motivated and well-prepared team of carers. They also noted the charity’s focus on both the physical and mental health of its employees, which in turn supports the delivery of exceptional care to those they support.
Autism Together employs over 800 staff members, providing care to more than 400 autistic adults across 17 residential care homes, 24 supported living properties, and eight day service locations throughout Wirral and West Cheshire. The organisation has made significant strides in improving employee benefits over the past 18 months, following the arrival of a new CEO and director of people and culture.
Under this new leadership, all support staff received pay rises, ensuring that every employee is paid at least the national living wage. In addition, Autism Together introduced an employee assistance programme offering confidential support to staff for their health and well-being.
Richard Whitby, CEO of Autism Together, commented on the award:
Helen Bilton, Autism Together’s Director of People and Culture, shared her thoughts on the win:
Congratulations and well done to the team at Autism Together!
